The Bob and Rob Show Study Guide Lesson104: Hodgepodge date: Sept 23, 2007 Show notes We’re doing another mashed up show this week containing lots of the regular features. Enjoy Phrasal Verbs and Idioms to fall apart 1) to be old or in bad condition and so break into different pieces e.g My old high school bag was so cheap that it was falling apart after a few months. 2) being unable to operate or exist because one has too many problems eg: My game just fell apart after I lost in the final. 3) being unable to act rationally or normally because you have too many worries or problems eg: I would just fall apart if my wife left me To fall for somebody or something 1) to be attracted to somebody and fall in love with them eg: I fell for my wife the moment I saw her. 2) to fall for something (informal) = to be tricked into thinking and believing something is true when in fact it is not eg: I fell for his spiel and bought the car but I wished I hadnt because its no good! Idioms: to be falling apart at the seams To be in such a bad condition that it starts to fail eg the health service is falling apart at the seams. Extra Idiom: to fall into place A) when something becomes clearer to you, or you understand it, things fall into place eg: I read a great murder mystery book recently, everything fell into place on the final few pages. B) when things start to happen in the way that you want them to, then things fall into place eg: the bank has given us the loan, the surveyors and solicitors have signed the papers, so it looks like everything is falling into place just at the right time. Bonus idiom: to fall over yourself to do something (for somebody usually) To be very eager and keen to do something, in particularly in cases where you dont often do the thing eg: my mother-in-law was falling over herself to be kind to me. OR My boss was falling over himself to be nice to the CEO. OR my friend was falling over himself to get the attention of that be
