Laser technology of microoptical components with gradient refraction index n (MOC-GRIN) Vadim P. Veiko Leningrad Institute of Precision Mechanics and Optics Department of Laser Technology USSR, 197101, Leningrad, Sablinskaja str., 14 ABSTRACT A new laser methods and apparatus are reported for manufacturing of microoptical components with gradient refractions index. The physical model of the local laser modification of properties of glass- like materials is described. The main types of the MOC including high-aperture microlenses and micro- objectives for optical communication, integrated optical devices, laser technique and technology and its specific parameters. 1. INTRODUCTION We see that optics oust electronics from traditional areas of its applications. Now optical communi- cation and cabel television, optical recording and data storage are realized, and optical videorecording become actual. The first elements and integrated optical schems have appeared. At last, it is possible to create in the nearest future optical processors, and after that optoelectronic and optical computers. All these problems demand a new more variable component base, which cannot be realized by ordi- nary methods of optical technology. The same situation is typical for traditional areas of optics, for example, imaging, where progress of optical system is limited not so much the fantasy of investigators, but by technology, for example — of aspheric elements, etc. The main defects of optical technolo
