The issues cov- ered in the interview include the origins of the Western literary history and Chinese literary history，the stages and modes of writ- ing Chinese literary histories, the interrelationships between literary historiography and intellectual history, and the new perspec- tives of literary historiography. The interview focuses on the new notions of “the Cultural Tang ” and ”discursive communities’’ proposed by Owen and elaborates their theoretical and methodological implications.
