A Comparative Study on Parents’ Emotional Expression Between China and the West --------Based on a survey Abstract：Due to the differences of cultural background, Chinese and western ways of parents’ emotional expression are really different. This research focuses on those differences, using a survey to analyze the features and problems of western and Chinese ways of parents’ emotional expression. And the results show that Chinese parents tend to have more implicit ways of emotional expression, focusing on practical actions while western parents express their emotion in an open and direct way, focusing more on the emotional level. Key words: cross-culture, emotional expression 1 Introduction With the coming of globalization, the frequency of international communication which include political communication, economic communication, technological communication and more importantly cultural communication is increasing. Those communications bring the world with many progresses as well as conflicts. For example, when watching American movie, a Chinese will always find many plots which he or she can not understand or many of the characters’ behaviors that will make him or her feel astonished. Those are all because of the culture differences. Different people form different cultural background has been influenced a lot by the families, societies and countries they live in. Therefore, they have totally different values and thinking patterns. When it comes to the level of families, more typical cultural differences can be found. Marriage forms, educational concepts are all varies in different cultures. And the ways of parents’ emotional expression are also different especially in Chinese and western countries.
