英语语言文化（English Language and Culture）—— 《英语词典学概论》 An Introduction to English Lexicography Course descrition: The purpose of this course is: let the participants know the basic srructures of English Lexicography and know how to use, analyze and criticise English dictionaries. In the class, the participants are required to attend lectures, discussions and presentations, and finish some tasks after class. At the end this semester, to fulfill the requirement of the credits, no exam is required, but the participants should write a short article (the theme will be given at week 14). This course will be taught both in English and Chinese. Main contents: As an introduction to English Lexicography, this course will cover the basic problems in this field. This course contains the following contents: Introductory Foreword explains the concepts of Reference Book, Dictionary and Lexicography, and discusses their relations. It conducts as an orientation of Lexicography. Chapter 1 is “The Typology of English Lexicography”, which introduces the basic types of English Dictionaries, such as General and Specialized Dictionary, Monolingual and Bilingual Dictionary, Encyclopedic and Language Dictionary, etc. Chapter 2 is “The Components of English Lexicography”, which mainly illustrates the Megastructure of English Lexicography including Front Matter and Back Matter. Chapter 3 is “The Macrostructure of English Lexicography”, which discusses the problems concerning 1. the selection of entry words and 2. the arrangement of the wordlist (alphabetical macrostructure and thematic macrostructure). Chapter 4 is “The Microstructure of English Lexicography”, which focuses on nine items among many microstructure items: headword and word-division, pronunciation, part of speech, definition, examples, usage information, encyclopedic information, etymology and illustrations.
