Abstract：Fieldexperimentswereconductedin2008and2009tostudytheeffectsofdeficitirriqationwithsaline
wateronspringwheatgrowthandyieldinanaridregionofNorthwestChina．NiRetreatmentsincludedthreesalinity
Ievelssl，s2ands3(0．65，3．2，and6．1dS／m)incombinationwiththreewaterlevelswl，w2andw3(375，300，and
225mm)．In2008，formosttreatments，deficitirrigationshowedadverseeffectsonwheatgrowth：meanwhile，the
effectofsalineirrigationwasnotapparent．In2009．growthparametersofwltreatmentswerenotalwaysoptimaI
undersalineirrigation．At3．2and6．1dS／m in2008．thehighestyieldwasobtainedbywltreatments．however,in
2009，theweightof1，000grainsandwheatyieldbothfoIlowedtheorderw2wlw3．1nthisstudy，springwheat
wassensitivetowaterdeficit，especiallyatthebootingtograin-fillingstages，butwasnotsignificantlyaffectedby
salineirrigationandthecombinationofthetwofactors．Theresultsdemonstratedthat300．mm irrigationwaterwith
asalinityoflessthan3．2dS／m issuitableforwheatfieldsinthestudyarea．
