J．Cent．SouthUniv．(2014)21：365—372 垒Springer DoI：10．1007／sl1771．014—1949．9 SpecificenergyoptimizationinsawingofrocksusingTaguchiapproach IzzetKarakurt DepartmentofMiningEngineering，KaradenizTechnicalUniversity，Trabzon61080，Turkey ◎CentralSouthUniversityPressandSpringer-VerlagBerlinHeidelberg2014 Abstract：ThisworkaimsatselectingoptimaloperatingvariablestoobtaintheminimumspecificenergyfSE)insawingofrocks．A particulargranitewassampledandsawnbyafullyautomatedcirculardiamondsawblades．Theperipheralspeed，thetraversespeed， thecutdepthandtheflow rateofcoolingfluidwereselectedastheoperatingvariables．Taguchiapproachwasadoptedasastatistical design ofexperimentaltechniqueforoptimization studies．Theresultswereevaluatedbased on theanalysisofvarianceand signal—to—noiseratio(sni ratio)．Statisticallysignificantoperatingvariablesandtheirpercentagecontributiontotheprocesswerealso determined．Additionally,astatistica1mode1wasdevelopedtodemonstratetherelationshipbetweenSEandoperatingvariablesusing regressionanalysisandthemode1wasthenverified．Itwasfoundthattheoptimalcombinationofoperatingvariablesofrminimum SE istheperipheralspeedof25rn／s．thetraversespeedof70cm／min，thecutdepthof2cm andtheflow rateofcoolingfluidof100 mL／s．Thecutdepth and traverse speedwere statistically determinedasthesignificantoperatingvariablesaffecting theSE， respectively．Furthemr ore，theregressionmodelresultsrevealthatthepredictivemodelhasahigh applicability ofrpractical applications． Keywords：circulardiamondsawblades；granite；specificenergy；Taguchiapproach with diamond sawblades．itisnecessary to optimize 1Introduction operatingvariablesofthemachine．
