PRECAST CONCRETE PAVEMENT SLAB REPAIRS Item No. Non Standard Special Provision April, 2006 1.0 SCOPE This special provision details the requirements for precast concrete pavement slab repairs on Highway 427. The Contractor shall carry out precast concrete pavement slab repairs at the locations identified in the Contract Documents. The work shall include both continuous and intermittent slab repairs. The existing pavement consists of approximately 230 mm (range 200-255 mm) of unreinforced concrete pavement over 150 mm cement treated base (CTB). The condition of the CTB ranges from excellent to disintegrating. In some areas, the concrete pavement has been removed and repaired with hot mix asphalt. Acceptable methods of repair are the Fort Miller Super-Slab( Method and the Michigan Method, as modified by the requirements of this special provision. In the Fort Miller Method, the work shall consist of fabricating precast concrete pavement slab repairs (Super-Slab(), sawcutting and removal of existing concrete pavement, fine grading base material, insertion of dowel bars and tie bars, placement of slabs, installation of proprietary concrete repair material in inverted dovetail slots, installation of bedding grout under the slabs, and sealing of joints, all in accordance with this special provision.
