Actor Instructions Blast Trauma Simulation Richard Lammers, MD Paramedic: Prehospital Field Report “Medic 10 to KCMS Hospital ER. This is paramedic Smith enroute emergency status, 5 minutes out from your facility with an approximately 30 year old male victim of an explosion at the local post office. The patient has sustained multisystem trauma resulting from the explosion and building collapse. He was removed from the rubble of the building approximately 50 minutes post explosion. The patient is conscious and alert to person only. He is in moderate respiratory distress. Respirations are labored; the rate is around 20. Lung sounds wet-sounding on the left more than the right. His pulses are rapid and weak. He has received what appears to be 2nd and 3rd degree burns about his chest and face, and he is covered with debris. The extent of his other injuries are unknown at this time. We have the patient immobilized on a long backboard, in a cervical collar, and have one peripheral IV established. He is receiving oxygen at 12 liters per minute by non-rebreathing mask. We anticipate arrival now in 2 minutes.” Paramedic Report on Arrival “Did you take the radio report? Last blood pressure was 115/70, pulse has been around 120, respirations 20.
