Environmental Risk Assessment Methodology The methodology for determining the significance of environmental impacts uses a rating system based on the maximum reasonable consequence of an event and the probability of occurrence. The procedure involves: determining the maximum reasonable Consequence of each event based on the definitions and examples provided in Table EM 301 App. A-1 determining the Probability of each event based on the definitions provided in Table EM 301 App. A-2 determining the Risk Ranking of the event from Table EM 301 App. A-3 Significant impacts are those with a Risk Ranking of Critical or High. The activity, environment aspects and impacts, and risk ranking are to be documented within an Aspects and Impacts Register (Form EM 301-1). For PB field activities related to project works, the activity, environmental aspects and impacts, and risk ranking are to be documented within the Project Safety Plan Form SA 204-01. Common environmental impacts associated with PB’s field activities together with suggested control measures are provided in Table EM 301 App. A-4.
