In respect to the disasters, act ive faults are the ir structure foundat ion, the strong ly w eathered surface provides them w ith m aterial conditions, rich precipitation and run-o ff are their power source, torrentia l ra in and flood are their mi portant triggering factors. H um an activ ity brings the pressure to the geological env ironm en t becau se o f u sing the g roundw ater excessive ly and denuding the forest ar- b itrarily. M ank ind destroys the eco log ical balance and becom es mi portant disaster-cau sing factor. U rban geo log ica l disasters in Guangzhou are m ore and m ore seriou s in the past ten years. T here are two peak periods in 1996- 1998 and 2000 - 2002. Spat ia l d istribut ion o f the d isasters is centered on the o ld town and basin m ain ly, spread ing to surround ing hills. K ey wo
