PRESIDENTIAL NOTES As we all rush towards the end of a very busy year I will make my notes brief. From a Committee perspective the three highpoints of the past three months have been the completion of the first Radiation training Program, distribution of the survey and submissions to the HPCA Implementation Committee. Radiography Training Programme Peter Fowler, Alistair Stockdill and Martin Lee ran the first two-day pilot radiation training program for orthodontic assistants in Christchurch in November. Thirteen orthodontic assistants attended and successfully completed the course. Full course details together with exemption forms have been sent to the Medical Radiation Technologists Board. We hope to have a positive response from the Board in the New Year. Granting an exemption to these Assistants will allow them to legally take radiographs at the request of an orthodontist. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Peter Fowler for organising the course and to Alistair Stockdill and Martin Lee for teaching the course. It is planned to take this course to other main centres during 2004. The Survey Thanks to Paul Crowther who has put in hours writing the survey and liasing with the Committee and Sub-Committees to ensure a full range of questions were included. The resulting survey is one of the most comprehensive surveys undertaken by the NZAO. Thank-you to those who have returned the survey. Almost 70% of members have replied and Paul has started to analyse results. We look forward to a full analysis and report early next year. HPCA The HPCA sub-committee of Wayne Dalley, Mike Courtney and Judith Hey have spent considerable time developing Scopes of Practice and Competency Standards for Specialist Orthodontists. This submission has been forwarded to the HPCA Implementation Committee. All health professions are moving into uncharted territory as they grapple with the writing of Scopes of Practice and Competency Standards. Wayne, Judith and Mike have risen to t
