Detailed study of the text 5.Assignment Amy Tan and her works Amy Tan is one of the prominent Chinese American writers that have emerged since the 1980s. She was born in Oakland, California, in 1952, two and a half years after her parents immigrated to United states from China. She received her master’s degree in linguistics from San Jose State University. Though her parents anticipated she would become a neurosurgeon by trade and a concert pianist by hobby, she instead became a consultant to programs for disabled children, and later a free-lance writer. She published her first novel: The Joy Luck Club in 1989, which was an instant success. It was followed by other novels The Kitchen God’s Wife(1901), The Hundred secret Senses (1995), and The Bonesetter’s Daughter (2001) Two Kinds a.
