Instruments The NMR spectra were measured using a Varian AS500 spectrometer (Agilent, Santa Clara, CA) operating at 500 MHz for 1H using tetramethylsilane (TMS) as the internal standard. The absorption and CD spectra were obtained in a 0.1, 0.5, or 5 cm quartz cell using a JASCO V570 spectrophotometer and a JASCO J-820 spectropolarimeter, respectively (JASCO, Tokyo, Japan). The temperature was controlled with a JASCO PTC-423L apparatus. The concentrations of
