Governmentalapproaches to regulatingday labor markets havefocused
principallyon industriessuch as construction,landscapingand agriculture,in
which day labor isperformed almost exclusively by men. Legal and social
science scholarship regardingday labor has largely ignored the significant
numbers of women working in domestic industries like housekeeping and
child-care. Such workers are in all respects day laborers,who contract
for
no more than a days or afew hours pay, and who experience the acute
contingency and imbalance of economic andpoliticalpower that typify the
day labor employment relationship. Despite some progressive advancesfor
day laborersgenerally, including the creation offormal hiringsites, wome
