ARK1600. About marvell 8686: Marvell 8686 host interface include : Spi interface Sdio interface We should note that different interface has a different firmware, as we all know any wifi net card need corresponding firmware and is not free, which is provided by manufacture of wifi net card. In our wifi driver we use sdio interface according to my hardware resource, which has a sd/mmc controller supporting sdio interface. About marvell 8686 host interface register description, pls refer to document【1】 SDIO interface wifi card communicate with host through SDIO protocol, which is subset of SD protocol. About detailed SDIO information pls refer to document 【2】 Finally, come to our hardware platform: ARK1600 SOC, which is a audio/video processor, its core use arm-926-EJS and this SOC integrate a sd/mmc controller that support SDIO interface communication. About manual of sd/mmc controller pls refer to 【3】 Next we focus on procedure of wifi driver under linux 2.6.25. Firstly,related files or directories in this wifi drvier list below: drivers\net\wireless\libertas \drivers\mmc Before nuts and bolts of wifi driver, I firstly introduce skeleton of entire software. Below figure is a standard host drive and WLAN firmware architecture. In the above figure, under the hardware interface, is content of firmware, which is running in the wifi card when power on , and above hardware interface, is content of host drive, that is what we need to implement, of course linux already help us complete most of it.
