Clinical Study on Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) of Spleen Deficiency Type by naval moxibustion with herbal medicine Speciality: Acupuncture and Moxibustion Author: Qi Ping Tutor: Gao Shuzhong Abstract Objective: Herbal-separated moxibustion navel therapy, farina-separated moxibustion navel therapy and oral medicine therapy with pinaverium bromide were selected to observe the curative effects on gastrointestinal symptoms and spleen deficiency syndromes on patients with IBS. By comparing the curative effects among them, we tried to value the three therapies objectively. Methods: 75 patients with IBS of spleen deficiency type were divided into three groups randomly with 25 patients each. We observed the scores of gastrointestinal symptoms and spleen deficiency syndromes of pretherapy, during-treatment period and follow-up period, and compared the curative effects among the three groups. Results: The three therpies were all effective to IBS. And it was more significant with the herbal-separated moxibustion and farina-separated moxibustion navel therapy. By comparing the scores of both the symptoms and the syndromes of the three groups, we could see that there is significant difference between moxibustion navel therapy and oral medicine therapy with pinaverium bromide on diarrhea, distension and abdominal pain(P0.01). It was more effective for the herbal-separated moxibustion navel therapy treating distension, abdominal pain, stuffiness and inappetency, etc, than the farina-separated moxibustion navel therapy(P0.05).
