The report requires library work, Internet searches, planning and patience. Here is an outline to help plan a research report. All research reports use roughly the same format. It doesnt matter whether youve done a customer satisfaction survey, an employee opinion survey, a health care survey, or a marketing research survey. All have the same basic structure and format. The rationale is that readers of research reports (i.e., decision makers, funders, etc.) will know exactly where to find the information they are looking for, regardless of the individual report. A title such as Biology lab #1 is not informative. Include the name(s) and address(es) of all authors, and date submitted. Abstract A brief summary of the study. Summarize the study, focusing on the results and major conclusions, including relevant quantitative data. It must be a single paragraph, and concise. It should stand on its own, therefore do not refer to any other part of the report, such as a figure or table. Avoid long sections of introductory or explanatory material. As a summary of work done, it is written in past tense. Introduction Explains the purpose of the paper.
