Miss Sullivan’s teaching connects the events together. The progress of Hellen Keller in her learning highlights the events. The first-person narrator of the essay confirms the readers that she is telling a real story where she herself is directly involved. She wants to be subjective because she intends to reveal her personal feelings and her gratitude toward Miss Sullivan. The readers are deeply moved by sharing the experience and the feelings of the narrator. If the story is told in the third-person point of view, the narrator is telling about somebody else. The narrator can distance the readers by telling the story objectively. The narrator can also tell the story emotionally.
