Disagreement on “Comparison” It is beyond any doubt that both French School and American School share a lot in common as far as the history and purpose of this discipline are concerned. Yet, we should not deny that there is much more serious disagreement over the objects, methods and programs of comparative literature. A case in point is their different recognition of “comparison”. Different Nature of Comparative Literature 《简比》页12 Part II Terminological Discrimination Analysis Comparative Literature, National L., Foreign L. , World L., General L. 民族文学:也叫国别文学或国家文学。民族文学就是指具有继承关系和独特历史文化传统的文学。 提倡比较文学绝不是忽视或削弱对具体的民族文学的研究。相反的是要把民族文学或国别文学放到同他国文学或世界文学的整体中,作比较鉴别,以便更准确和更清晰地探索与发现它的独特性以及它与其他民族文学的普遍性。用当今的新理论话语来说,能更好的认识“自我”和“他者”。 小结: 民族文学和外国文学,是比较文学的研究起点和参照基点; 世界文学和总体文学的认识是比较文学研究的目的和结果。 Prelude So far, Comparative Literature, as an independent discipline, has already passed its centennial anniversary and has gone through many ups and downs on its route from birth via growth to maturity.
