When he was young, he had a great interest in literature. He practised writing literary works under the guidance(指导,教导) of the famous novelist Flaubert. And Balzac was another teacher of his. So he wrote in the tradition of 19th century French realism( 现实主义),and became one of the most famous French critical realists(批判现实主义作家)of the 19th century. Seven-year old Guy de Maupassant () 11 years’ old 19 years’ old Maupassant’s stories were built around the everyday life of the simple humble(地位,身份卑微的,低下的)people. He had a fine use of irony(讽刺,反语). His style was direct and simple, with attention and realistic(现实的,现实主义的)details. At his best, he was able to put into a few pages a life story which would take other writers a whole volume(书的册,卷,本)to describe. Maupassant suffered a great deal from illness in his life. Yet he struggled to continue writing with tremendous(极大的,巨大的,不平常的)will power. He had but a short life, and died at the age of 43 ( on July 6, 1893 ). A story telling us a story
