Chengdu Bureau ofM eteorology, Chengdu 610041, China) Abs tract: By using the observational data of thunderstorm of five stations in Chengdu during 1959 to 2000, the cl-i matic characteristics of the thunderstorms are stud ied by means ofmathematical statistics and the analysis ofw ave- lets. The resu lts show that them ean annual number of thunderstorm days is comparatively large, and interannual thunderstorm variability is great, the annual number of thunderstorm days has a decreasing trend, the numerical value of decreasing days is about 4 per decade. The obvious seasonal variation of thunderstorm can also be detec- ted, and the period of April to September is the most frequent months for thunderstorm, and over 0% thunder- storm occurs in the three-month of June, July and August during the summ er.
