Getting the message that the writer intended by means of such strategies as skimming, scanning, inference, deduction and conjecture. 2. About reading strategies How readers conceive a task, what textual cues they attend to, how they make sense of what they read, and what they do when they do not understand. 3.Reading approaches The ways of handling the reading material specifically, how readers get the necessary information quickly, accurately and efficiently. 3.1 Top-down” Approach “The reader uses his or her knowledge of the topic or of the type of the text and makes predictions about what the text will contain, then these predictions are checked by reading and trying to understand the text. 3.2 Bottom-up” Approach – The reader builds up the meaning of a text on the basis of decoding smaller units; first words
