Step 2 Speak up
1.Listen and answer:
Simon and Daniel are talking about the life on Mars. Listen to their conversation and find out their opinions on it.
Would Daniel like to live on Mars?Why (not)?
Where doesSimon prefer to live ?Why?
2.Read the dialogue together and then practice the useful expressions.
3.Practise the dialogue in pairs or make a similar dialogue in pairs.
Step 3 lead-in
We have learnt a lot about Mars. Today we are going to learn more about M ars.
What ‘t the colour of Mars? So we call it Red planet.Why is red??Because of tts atmosphere.
The main part of the atmosphere is carbon dioxide instead of oxygen.How much carbon dioxide? 95 percent. However, the surface of Mars is more like the surface of the earth than other planets and it has two moons: phobos and deimos.
Step 4 Presentation
1.To know better about Mars, please read the text on p18 and answer the questions:
What’s the text mainly about?
Do we need to read every word to get the answer ?We just need to run over word to get the answer?
We just need to run over the text quickly---read the first and the last paragraphs, the title and the headings. We call this kind of reading skill skimming.
2. Answer another question
Is there any life on Mars? Why/
Also,we don’t need to read every word. Istead, just look for the key information that will answer your questions.So we call this kind of reading skill scanning.
Step5Practising
Using skimming and scanning to do the exercises and check the answers on p18.
1.Read the text together and practice the useful phrases.
2.Read it by the students themselves.
