Many organizations have an “architecture” or “best practices” group to learn the technology, and figure out the best way to apply it within their organization. The output of this is a document, or a web site with reams of information. How realistic is it that all the developers are going to wade through this material, and digest it, before they ever start programming? It never happens. So what do you do? If best practices aren’t widely adopted, they provide no value. Coming up with best practices is actually lost productivity if no one follows those practices. Those developer should have just written code rather than coming up with best practices.
