Readers always look to the first one or two sentences in a paragraph to orient themselves. The topic sentence ties all other sentences in the paragraph together to convey a single message. Without it the reader cannot possibly grasp your exact meaning.. consider 3.4 E-mail technical writing Writing to find your position in relation to your surroundings to communicate to understand sth completely Before you can write a good topic sentence, identity your purpose, based upon knowledge of your readers’ needs. You must think of ways to make the topic sentence more informative so it expresses your point most accurately. Avoid broad or abstract topic sentences. In constructing those sentences include information the reader requires in order to under to understand the paragraph’s main idea. Supporting sentences may include: 3.4 E-mail technical writing Writing with very clear aims general; not detailed Example of the topic. Facts, statistics, evidence, details, or precedents that confirm the topic. Quotes, paraphrases, or summaries of evidence on the topic. Descriptions of events that relate to the topic. Definitions of terms connected with the topic. Explanations of how something works.
