BACKGROUND INFORMATION Packing is considered as one of the very important parts in international transactions. Not only does it help to promote sales, reduce warehousing cost, freight and damages, it also reflects the achievement of a country’s science, technology, culture and art, add value to the products. Good packing may create people’s desire to possess them and enable the goods to reach users in perfect condition. BACKGROUND INFORMATION Inner packing aids marketing, advertising, display, presentation, protection, handling and self-service retailing, while outer packing is designed to protect the goods from damaging and theft and facilitating transport, loading and unloading while being carried from one place to another. Usually packing varies with the nature of the contents. The most commonly used packing containers are cartons, cases, crates, drums, barrels, bales, tins, and carboys and so on. BACKGROUND INFORMATION A third kind of packing, neutral packing is also often used in international trade. Neutral packing means that there is neither a name of the origin, nor a name and address of the factory ,nor a trade mark, a brand, or even any words on the (outer or inner) packing of the commodity. The purpose of using neutral packing by exporters is to break down the tariff and non-tariff barriers of some countries or regions, or meet the special demands of the transaction. It may also help the manufacturers in exporting countries to increase the competitiveness of their products, expand the exports and earn the foreign exchange in the importing countries. BACKGROUND INFORMATION Associated with packing is the marking of goods. Shipping marks are analogous to identification cards of people. Exporters, importers and carriers rely on them to distinguish one shipment from another. They are also the essential means of identifying and linking cargo and documents together. The marking information on the package should be identical with that on the documents.
