Student B (Luke) -Lots of issues here and plenty of discussion should result. -(Not shown on slide) 8 days absent and 12 days late with no mention of it in the comments section. -Comments are generic in nature, not specific to the student, and could be used for anyone in the class. -Comments include a review of material covered. -”Room for improvements” is not specific enough to be considered a “next step”. -Learning Behaviours: “R” in Personal Management with no comment, “C” in Active Participation in learning with no comment. -Grade scale shows “4” in all subject categories with an overall grade of 78%, which is not congruent. Student C (Janice) -comments are respectful and positive but provide no information to the parent about the student’s progress. -the comment is generic in nature and not specific to the student -Student was absent 6 days, which may be a cause for concern but had a “C” rating for Personal Management Skills - of course, we don’t know if this was caused by an illness but commenting on this number of absences would be considered good reporting. -Since the students had a grade of 88%, the parent may not be concerned about the comment, but that is not the issue. The comment section is an opportunity to speak to the successes and bring attention to the student’s “strengths” that have contribute to those successes. That opportunity was missed in the case of this student. Student D (Diego) -The term “he is able” is ambiguous - we are not sure if the student actually does these things or not because the teacher has not actually said it. E.g. Instead of saying “he is able to work cooperatively” (which may imply that he is capable, but not performing the task for some reason that is not stated) the teacher needs to say “he works cooperatively”. -Re: the comment “As for using his time well, he does still require reminders to stay on task, especially in Physical Education classes”, a Learning Behaviour rating of “C” was given in Personal Management skil
