科技英语中公式、数字、符号的表达法 （一）加、减、乘、除的表达法加、减、乘、除四则运算是日常生活中必不可少的运算法。英语中，+ 读作 plus，（作为正号，还读作pozitive），—读作minus，（作为负号，还读作negative），×读作 times [taimz]或 multiplied by，÷读作divided by，= 读作 equals 或 is equal to。如：25+6-8×7 ÷3 读作 twenty five plus six minus eight times （multiplied by） seven divided by three。 另外，读作greater than， 读作 less than，≈读作approximately equals。如：ab 读作a is greater than b，ba读作 b is less than a，π≈3.14读作π is approximately equal to three point one four。 （二）分数的表达法 分数在英语里叫fraction，一般由分子 （numerator [nju:m?reit?]）和分母 （denominator [din?mineit?]） 组成。 在一般情况下，分子用基数词（cardinal [kɑ:dinl] number）表示，分母用序数词 （ordinal [?:dinl] number）表示。如：1/3 读作one third，1/5 读作one fifth，1/7 读作 one seventh，1/25 读作one twenty-fifth。 因为后面的序数词都被看作名词，因此，如果分子大于 1，分母就用序数词的复数形式。如：2/3 读作two thirds，4/5 读作four fifths，3/7 读作 three sevenths，5/6 读作 five sixths，9/10 读作 nine tenths 等等。 当分母为2或4时，我们常用 half 和 quarter 来表示。如： 1/2 读作 one (a) half，1/4 读作 one (a) quarter；3/4 读作 three quarters。 如果是带分数 （mixed fraction），整数正常读，在整数和分数之间加上and，如：三又四分之三读作 three and three fourths，四又七分之二分别four and two sevenths。 但是，当分母是十位数以上，且最后一位数字是1或2时，一般不按以上读法来读。其中的分数线读作 over，如：5/21 读作 five over twenty one。 Over这种表达法在其它情况下也可使用。如果分子和分母都很大，如：1/2361 读作 one over two thousand three hundred and sixty one；1/1089 读作 one over a thousand and eighty-nine等。 另外，代数里的分数也用 over 表示分数，如： 就读作 2a minus one over ax plus b。 如果分母是一百，分子按正常读，分母可读作序数词，也可读作 percent。如：13/100，即可读作 thirteen hundredths，也可读作 thirteen percent。不过，百分比一般读作 percent。如：100%读作one hundred percent，76%读作seventy six percent 等等。 假分数，如3/2，读作three over two或one and a half (按照带分数)。 读作：average speed equals (is equal to) distance travelled over (divided by) time taken. （三）小数的表达法 小数在英语中叫decimal [desim?l] fractions。其整数部分(the integral [intiɡr?l] part) 按正常读，接着再说Point，接着再依次读出小数位。如：13.87 读作thirteen point eight seven；6.68 读作 six point six eight。 当小数小于 1 时，美国常见记法如：0.26，0.45，分别读作 zero (nought，o) point two six 和zero (nought，o) point four five。而在英国，小数点前面的 0 一般不写，只写小数点和后面小数位上的数字。如 0.36 只写 .36，读作 point three six。 精确到 3 位数，英语为 correc
