Lecture SevenShift of Figures of Speech Teaching Aims: To grasp some skills in the shift of figures of speech To know some figures of speech To know something about the contrast between Chinese and English Figures of speech are ways of making our language figurative. When we use words in other than their ordinary or literal sense to lend force to an idea, to heighten effect, or to create suggestive imagery, we are said to be speaking or writing figuratively. I Literal translation 这样做太危险，简直就是走钢丝。 空话还不了债。 从他嘴里说出来地话比蜜还甜。 我希望我的马能赶上你的嘴。 他肯定自打还在摇篮的时候就给惯坏了。 II Part- interpretation The waiter says with a voice like the butter cake and eyes like the cherry in a cocktail.
