Spine and Sacroiliac Rehabilitation Therapeutic Exercise Rehab Project By Jacky Andreatta Anatomy of the Spine and Sacroiliac Anatomy of the Spine and Sacroiliac Rehabilitation Goals Rehabilitation begins immediately after an injury has occurred. Once a specific injury has been assessed, and rehabilitation program should be implemented. Each rehab program should address several components for both short and long term goals. The rehab program should include: (1) providing correct and immediate first and and control swelling. (2)reduce or minimize swelling. (3)restore full range of motion. (4)restore and increase muscular strength, endurance, and power. (5)reestablish neuromuscular control. (6)improve balance. (7)maintain cardiovascular endurance. (8)incorporate the appropriate functional progressions. Rehabilitation Goals Three phases should be followed to incorporate the proper progressions. The immediate care phase. Restoration of motion and strength. The return to activity phase. Common Injuries to the Spine and Sacroiliac Herniated Disk: a displacement of the disc’s center (called a herniated or ruptured disc) through a crack in the outer layer. Spinal Stenosis: condition characterized by an abnormally narrow spinal column, which in turn pinches the spinal cord and associated nerves. Spondyloisthesis: a developmental crack in one of the vertebrae, usually at the point at which the lower (lumbar) part of the spine joins the tailbone (sacrum). cracked vertebra does slip forward over the vertebra below it. This is known as adult isthmic spondylolisthesis. Spondylolysis: a stress fracture, due to the constant forces the low back experiences, this fracture does not usually heal as normal bone. This type of fracture is simply a crack in part of the vertebra Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction: can become irritated is through abnormal movement occurring on a repetitive basis.? Examples of this are sport-related activities where heavy impact occurs through jumping and
