And your cooperation would be appreciated; here I wish you a pleasant stay in Henan. Today we are going to visit the Hangu Pass Ancient Culture Tourist Zone in Sanmenxia city. As we are already in Sanmenxia now, I’d like to give you a brief introduction about this city. Sanmenxia is located in the western part of Henan province. Sanmenxia, with mountains on four sides and water on three sides, is the west entrance of Henan province, sharing the boundary with Shanxi province to the north and Shaanxi province to the west. The history of Sanmenxia can be traced back to as early as around 70000 years ago, when our ancestors began to live, labor and multiply here. The citys name in Chinese means The Gorge of Three Gateways and is derived from two islands that split the Yellow River into three parts. According to Chinese mythology, Yu the Great used a divine axe to cut the mountain ridge three times, creating the Sanmenxia gorges to prevent massive flood.
