English For International Academic Exchange Lecturer: Zhu Xiao-jiang (Alex) 10th March. 2015 Origins of Cross-cultural Communication(跨文化交际的起源): 起源冷战时期:The world was, in the Cold War era, polarized into two powers: the East and the West. 社会发展推动文化交流:changes and advancements in economic relationships, political systems, and technological options began to break down old cultural barriers(打破文化壁垒). 国际化的产生:Business transformed from individual-country capitalism to global capitalism. Thus, the study of cross-cultural communication was originally found within businesses and government, both seeking to expand globally. 跨文化交际的初始内容:language training and cultural awareness promotion among employees(商业人员培训); government employees received trainings and prepared for overseas posts(政府职员培训);implementation of a “world view” perspective in the curriculum of higher education(高等教育培养国际化视野); 正式开端:In 1974, the International Progress Organization(国际化进程组织), with the support of UNESCO (联合国教科文组织)held an international conference on “The Cultural Self-comprehension of Nations”(国际会议“世界各国对自身文化的理解”) 提出: 1、organize systematic and global comparative research on the different cultures of the world“(系统研究不同文化) 2、 ”to make all possible efforts for a more intensive training of diplomats in the field of international cultural co-operation ... and to develop the cultural aspects of their foreign policy.“(强化培训外交人员的国际文化合作意识和能力、促进各国文化外交政策的发展) 高校所扮演的角色: increasing pressure for universities across the world to incorporate intercultural and international understanding and knowledge into the education of their students.(高校面临着前所未有的压力) International literacy(国际化意识)and cross-cultural communication (跨文化交际)have become critical (关键)to a country’s cultural, technological, economic, and political health. Students must possess a certain degree of global competence to understand the world they live in and how they fit into this world.
