Period 1 Welcome to the unit
Teaching aims:
After learning this part, the students will be able to:
have a general understanding of a different way of greeting each other by people from different countries;
know some different customs that are different in different parts of the world;
express their opinions about the possible problems that may be caused by the differences.
Teaching difficult points and important points:
Make students free to talk in and after class about the different customs in different countries.
Talk and improve the Ss’ speaking ability.
Teaching methods:
Discussion, reading and cooperative learning.
Teaching aids:
A computer and some pictures.
Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Lead-in
Ask students to say what they know about the Chinese way of eating and greeting.
T: As we all know, different countries have different cultures and customs. Look at the Quiz on the screen please, let’s know more about cultural differences in different countries.
1.In Western countries, it’s unusual to give tips. (No)

Step 2 Sharing information
1. Ask students to talk about the six pictures in pairs or groups focusing on the ways of specific greetings. Then ask several students to describe in their own words how people in different countries greet each other.
2. Ask students to look at the pictures again and read the captions under them .Ask them to match the ways of greeting with the countries.
