Step 1: Pre-reading
1. Arouse students to show interest in cloning by four beautiful pictures
They are lovely twins. Do you want to have a brother or sister identical with you?If you want, can it bring advantages or problems to us ? (引入深思环节)
2. Think deeply
Do you think it beneficial or harmful to us if we have a cloned brother or sister? And why? (学生自主思考)
Beneficial effects: 1. share our interests and feelings 2. help us out when necessary 3. do good to building our character
Harmful effects: 1. destroy the balance of nature 2. make the family burden heavy in a way (从这个问题引导文章的主题:多利羊的诞生及带来的影响)
Step 2: Fast reading (自主学习)
Read the passage quickly and silently in five minutes and answer the following questions
(1) How to make an exact copy of plants?
Gardeners take cuttings from growing plants to make new ones
(2) What was the first clone from an adult animal? At what age did this clone die?
The first clone from an adult animal was Dolly the sheep. She lived six and a half year.
(3) Which sentence in the passage can be replaced by the following sentence?
When Dolly appeared, there were many people opposed to them and they attracted the attention of the media and the public
Dolly抯 appearance raised a storm of o bjections and had a great impact on the media and public imagination
