A narrative essay is one that gives an account of an event or a series of event. Narrative writing includes stories, real or imaginary, biographies, histories, news items and narrative poems. In a narrative essay, the writer usually makes clear the time, the place and the character(s) at the beginning of the narrative. Details are essential for a narrative. But only select those relevant details that contribute to bringing out the main ideas of the narrative. Events usually develop by time.
