Unit 8 Conquering Disaster I. 教学目标 1.教会学生表达各种形式的灾难，并教会学生使用准确的词汇表达如何征服灾难；2.帮助学生很好的理解两篇课文并正确地完成相关课后练习。通过指导学生对课文的学习，提高学生的综合阅读能力；3．引导学生提高四级写作技能，帮助学生注意到议论文与说明文的差异，使之能针对不同的主题选择合适的文体写作；4. 帮助学生复习英语语法使之综合正确使用所学英语内容。 II.教学内容 词汇 1. Shudder n. a tremor 震动，颤动 e.g. “It was not that ,” said Nell, glancing around with a slight shudder. “并不是那么回事”, 内尔说着，微颤的四下回顾。 An involuntary shudder passed over both of them. 他们两人都禁不住的打了个寒颤。 c.f. shake, tremble, quiver, vibrate shake: informal uncontrollable trembling, as in a person who is cold, frightened, feverish, or ill. 最普通用词，含义广。指人或物不自主的颤动，摇摆，常侧重剧烈和无规律。 tremble : to shake involuntarily, as from excitement or anger; quake 指由于寒冷，虚弱，愤怒或恐惧而发抖，战栗。 quiver: to shake with a slight ,rapid ,tremulous movement. 多用于指事物。 物体像乐器的弦一般的轻微而急促的颤动。 vibrate: to move back and forth or to and fro,especially rhythmically and rapidly. 指急速的连续震动，也指钟摆等的来回摆动。 2. However, it became clear that something was amiss aboard the 1500-cabin luxury vessel, after the two heard announcements regarding lifeboats and muster stations. amiss: a. wrong, incorrect, or faulty有错误的，出差错的 e.g. When he is silent ,however ,we have reason to believe that something is amiss. 但当他保持沉默时，我们有理由相信出了什么错。 muster: v. to cause to come together; gather 召集（士兵）等，使集合 e.g. Bring all the volunteers you can muster. 把你能召集的所有志愿者都带来。 muster in: 应召入伍 e.g. He mustered in at the age of 18. 她十八岁时应招入伍。 3.They dressed, grabbed their life jackets and went to investigate, coming upon a chaotic scene. come upon: to find or meet someone or something, esp. unexpectedly偶然遇到；突然产生 e.g. We came upon a farmer setting a fire to clear off dead grass from the pasture. 我们碰到一个农民正在放火把农场边上的杂草烧光。 4.We peeked around the corner to kind of see what people were doing…and my gosh, people were actually getting in a lifeboat. kind o
