1 Stars on board 义演、做志愿、捐款捐物……明星们为地震灾区奔走出力 Chinese pop stars have been doing their best to raise money for the quake-hit areas. On June 1, more than 200 stars from Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the Chinese mainland staged (演出) an eight-hour-long charity concert in Hong Kong. It was the largest ever charity show held in the city. All the money collected was donated (捐赠) to quake funds (基金). “We’re holding the concert to help with the rebuilding of affected areas in the coming years. Quake-hit areas need help from the whole country”, said Jackie Chan. With Andy Lau, he organized the event. A few celebrities (明星) have gone to the quake-hit towns themselves. They helped the relief (救济) work there. Singer Zhang Liangying helped set up temporary entertainment centers for children in Dongbei Town in Mianzhu City. The children’s centers have chairs, white boards, books, TV sets and DVD machines. Each center can hold up to 30 children. Chinese-American singer Lee-Hom Wang visited a tent school in Guangyuan last week. He taught students there a Chinese lesson. “You speak mandarin (普通话) better than our teacher!” one student said. Singaporean singer Stefanie Sun donated about 4 million yuan to Zaojiao Town in Shifang. She also brought tents, food and medicines with her. She visited a primary school in the town and brought gifts and cards sent by Singaporean children.
