Experiment report about osmosis in plant tissue
Name:
Date: Dec. 25th 2013
1. Introduction
Nowadays, the osmosis has aroused an increasing number of people’s attention. According the reliable knowledge both in the past and at present, osmosis has long been considered to be the spontaneous net movement of solvent molecules. (Haynie, Donald T. 2001) Specifically speaking, it is mainly through a membrane into an area of higher solute concentration, the final goal is to equalize the solute concentrations on the two sides. Moreover, it is also used to describe a physical process, despite the fact that osmosis does not require input of energy, but it indeed uses kinetic energy. Besides, it is widely acknowledged that a concentration gradient refers to an uneven distribution of a substance. To better illustrate this, it is a good way to think of a balloon. Under this situation, the air inside the balloon is more concentrated than the outside air. Moreover, there is a concentration gradient chiefly because of the differences existed in concentration. The moment when people release the tip of the balloon, the air inside the balloon will shoot out because it purses the equal concentration everywhere. Therefore, when something is not constant with its concentration gradient, it seems to be forced from less concentrated area into a more concentrated place.
When it comes to the tonicity of water and net movement of water between plant cell and solution, the following explanation is really valuable. There is no denying the fact that the membrane of the cell or we say various subcellular organelles often act as a regulatory structure, it chiefly by controlling the entry or exit of substances of the cell. ( Statkraft. 2007) It can be justified without any exaggeration that the membrane may be permeable, impermeable and partially permeable under a given substance. Generally speaking, membranes are considered to be free to water mol
