1. Data and pictures on school shooting
a. questions for discussion before seeing the pictures and data
①What do you think about school shooting in America?
②Would you like to keep a gun with you if you’re allowed to have?
b. data and some pictures about school shooting in America to show violence caused by guns.
II. Text Structure Analysis
The passage is a description of what happened one night when the writer went home. The passage presents the BASIC pattern of situation-problem-evaluation. However, the organization of the reading passage is a variation of that BASIC pattern:
Situation + problem
Sequential details of the problem
Responses
Comments and evaluation
Thus, the passage can be roughly divided into 4 parts.
Part One (Para. 1): It is about the situation and the problem. In spite of my caution, someone attacked me.
Part Two (Para. 2-25): This is the main body of the passage. I was robbed by two young men, losing my money, watch and chicken. Three major events are presented according to time sequence.
First→Para.2-10: the first robber appeared and my reaction
Second→Para.11-16: the robber ripped my watch and another robber appeared
Third→Para.17-25: wallet, watch and chicken in hand, two robbers ran away and kept me alive.
