Purpose
To establish guidelines for recruiting, testing, interviewing, and hiring of applicants.
Policy
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office is an equal opportunity employer and selects the most qualified candidates for appointment. All selection process components are job related and nondiscriminatory. The agency application and selection process conforms to law and this policy and procedures.
Definitions
Civilian Member – A full or part-time member who is not certified as a law enforcement officer and does not possess arrest powers.
Controlled Substance – Any substance named or described in Schedules I through V of Section 893.03, F.S.S.
Criticall – A computer test that assesses an applicant’s computer skills and multi-tasking capabilities.
Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission (CJSTC) – A division of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement responsible for uniform minimum standards and training for law enforcement, correctional, and correctional probation officers.
Emotional Stability/Psychological Fitness Examination – A screening by a licensed professional designed to identify candidate behavior patterns and/or personality traits that may prove either deleterious or advantageous to successful job performance.
Member – A generic term used in policy to describe all agency personnel.
Physical Abilities Test (PAT) – An assessment, based on FDLE guidelines, using various tasks to determine if a person’s physical abilities meet certain levels stated in policy.
Selection Criteria – The standards used to fill a specific position.
