The rhetorical devices employed include: metaphor, parallelism, repetition, alliteration, antitheses. Kennedy is very particular and careful in his choice of words, such as “our sister republics south of our border” and “to those who would make themselves our adversary”. The address is well organized, and the order is clear and appropriate. Para. 1--5: He introduced the general statement of the basic policy of the US. Para. 6--10: He addressed America’s old friends and allies with the sweetest words. Para. 11--20: He addressed America’s foes with veiled threat. Para. 21—27: He concluded the address by calling on the Americans and the whole world. About some words We observe today not a victory of party but a celebration of freedom, symbolizing an end as well as a beginning, signifying renewal as well as change.
