He was awarded the Nobel Price for literature in1948 for his composition of Four Quarters. Literary criticism The basic themes of Eliot’s criticism concerned the relationship between tradition and individual talent and between the past, the present and the future. Eliot’s famous doctrine on poets and poetry is known as the “impersonal theory,” or the theory of impersonality and objectivity.
