Finally, special thanks should go to my friends who have put considerable time and effort into their comments on this paper. 摘 要 本文将在回顾前人相关研究成果的基础上，对《嘉莉妹妹》进行深入分析。首先将介绍作者的生平及其写作风格；其次深入探讨《嘉莉妹妹》中的美国梦，其中包括对美国梦的含义、嘉莉的追梦之路及其各个阶段美国梦的详尽阐述；进而探究影响嘉莉美国梦破灭的社会因素及个人因素；最后，指出嘉莉在追梦之路上，其身上展现出的积极面。 关键词：嘉莉；； Abstract On the basis of the previous research, this paper will analyze Sister Carrie in a relatively comprehensive way. First of all, it will introduce the author ?Theodore Dreiser and his writing style. Then, it will 详elaborate on the American Dream in Sister Carrie including the meaning of American Dream, Carrie Meeber’s pursuit of American Dream and her American Dream in different periods. Furthermore, it will explore the social factors and her personal factors which result in Carrie’s broken American Dream. At last, this paper will point out Carrie’s positive qualities throughout her pursuit of American Dream. Key Words: Car
