Good Coral Team 10/22/30 The Effect of the Time the Paper Towel is Submerged in Water on the Height the Water Rises INTRODUCTION There are many different types of paper towels that have different qualities that appeal to different types of buyers. Some buy towels because it is the “quicker picker upper”, its stronger or because the size can vary when cut. It also can simply be because the brand is cheaper. Looking at an individual paper towel, there are spaces between them when stretched out. These spaces may have an affect on how much and how fast liquid is absorbed. The purpose of this investigation is to determine the effect of the time the paper towel is submerged in water on the height the water rises. If the paper towel is submerged the longest amount of time, then the paper towel will have the highest height of water absorption because the longer it is in water, the more water can be absorbed upward. Fill the beaker with 150 mL of water. Add several drops of food coloring and stir. Draw a horizontal line with the pencil 2 cm from the bottom. This will be the starting point that the water will touch. Place the paper towel to this 2 cm line in the water and begin timing. Starting at 10s and continuing in 5-second intervals up to 40s, record the height the water rose. Use a marker to place a dot on the paper towel to mark off the water l
