EU post-2010 biodiversity vision and targets John MacKinnon - ECBP Background - EU 2010 target In 2001, the EU set itself the target to halt biodiversity loss in the EU by 2010 In 2002, it signed up to a global target of significantly reducing biodiversity loss worldwide by 2010 Efforts to tackle biodiversity loss were subsequently stepped up, and an EU Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP) was adopted by the Commission in 2006 to accelerate progress Despite the many great efforts to date, there are clear indications that the EU will not achieve its target.
