薛莹 高一新课标英语 Unit4 Earthquake Period 1 Listening and Talking Part One: The analysis of the teaching material The analysis of the text book New Century Senior English aims not only at helping the students improve their abilities in listening, speaking, reading and writing, but at developing their ability to study actively, independently and purposefully as well. Besides, the textbook also exploits the students’ potential in communicative English. The analysis of the students’ situation Students in senior high school pay more attention to written exercises than to the improvement of their ability of using English, especially spoken English. Therefore, not all of the students in the class can express their thought in English naturally and fluently. What the teachers need to do is to direct them in developing their interest in using English in order to improve this situation. For example, providing more chances for them to practice in class, like role playing, group discussing and so on. The analysis of the unit This unit of Earthquake mainly describes the 1976 Tangshan Earthquake, and all language activities are expended around the topic of earthquake. There are eight parts in this unit, and I design it into 6 periods, including two listening and talking classes, two reading classes, one grammar class and one writing class. Teaching content in this period This would be the first period of the whole unit, and I design it as a listening and talking class, which include warming-up, pre-reading and listening in the workbook. Part Two: Teaching aims, Key points Difficulties, Strategies Methods Teaching Aims Knowledge aims Students primarily get familiar with some words about earthquake. eg. crack, cut across, canal, fall down, etc. Students get the knowledge about earth plate tectonic activities, and the cause of earthquakes. Ability aims Students could describe Tangshan and San Francisco’s city appearances. Students could understand simple listening material abou
