Artificial Intelligence Lecture 10: Expert systems Lecturer: Siril Yella sye@du.se Early days of AI During the 1950s, AI scientists promised to build all-purpose intelligent machines on a human-scale knowledge base by the 1980s and to exceed human intelligence by 2000. Research on AI was attempted at simulating complex thinking by using general approaches (simple search mechanisms) for solving broad classes of problems (Negnevitsky, 2005).
