Review of Iron and Silk The Story It’s a movie easy to understand. The movie recorded a true story that reflects the writer’s experience in China which took place at the beginning of reform and opening. Mark Saltzman, a young American went to Changsha medical school after graduation as an English teacher during 1982~1984. He taught Chinese teachers English in Changsha Medical School, after a long period in China, he became as much of a student of Chinese life, calligraphy, Tai Chi, and martial arts. He also encountered a beautiful Chinese woman Ming, and fell in love with her. But unfortunately, under the social background and people’s thinking, they couldn’t together with each other eventually. However, he was fortunate enough to find a grand master Pan Qingfu to teach him martial arts, and learnt tai chi and Chinese manners and etiquette from teacher Pei. As time went by, Mark began to appreciate the uniqueness of Chinese humor and emotions. He got a lot in China during that time. Before leaving for his own country, teachers even organized a farewell party for him. The hospitality of Chinese people and the highest experience in China made him unforgettable.
