规划-全英语版本 China City Planning Review Vol.19, No.1, 2010 Theme Documents China City Planning Review Vol.19, No.1, 2010 Theme Documents A Comparative Analysis on Urbanization of Former Industrial Bases in Northeast China LI Rusheng, GAO Xiangduo, LI Chenggu Abstract The concentrated urbanization with the priority given to large cities and the balanced urbanization with the emphasis laid on small towns development are the two major urbanization patterns nowadays. The paper analyzes the urbanization pattern of the Great Lakes Industrial Area of US and the Ruhr Industrial Area of Germany, and compares it with the urbanization pattern of the former industrial base in Northeast China, which indicates that the development of the former industrial base is in a dilemma between the choices of these two urbanization patterns. In consequence, the paper discusses the choice of urbanization pattern of the former industrial base from the perspective of regional and spatial distinctions, as well as carrying out a countermeasure study on the urbanization patterns of different areas. Introduction To date, there have been two dominant opinions on the way of urbanization: to develop large cities, and to develop small- and medium-sized cities. In view of the advanced experiences of the urbanization process in foreign countries, both of the ways have successful examples. In fact, the differences of regional developments make it impossible for all the areas to follow one uniform urbanization pattern. Different cities and regions with different characteristics should promote their urbanization process in different ways. Northeast China is an industrial base developed by long-term national investments and regional resource exploitation.
